Hello there!!
"The other night, I had a conversation with a young lady who had a number of decisions ahead of her, which included whether she should go to grad school or travel the world.
I told her to travel. Hands down. No excuses. Just go. The results are worth the costs.
And she sighed.
“Yeah, but…”
Never were more fatal words spoken:
- Yeah, but… what about debt?
- Yeah, but… what about my job?
- Yeah, but… what about my boyfriend (or dog or car or whatever)?
Most people I know who waited to travel the world never did. Conversely, plenty of people who waited for grad school or a steady job and traveled still did those things — eventually.
Be careful of the yeah-but. The yeah-but will kill your dreams.
I was so stirred by this conversation that I shared it with a group of 30 young adults last night, many who were asking these very same questions.
The life you’ve always wanted
When you get older, life seems to just sort of happen to you. Your youth is a time of total empowerment. You get to do what you want.
But as you mature and gain new responsibilities, you have to be very intentional about making sure you don’t lose sight of what’s important.
So if you still have a reasonable amount of control over your circumstances, you should do what really matters. Because life won’t always be just about you.
During early adulthood, your worldview is still being formed. It’s important to steward this time — to give yourself opportunities to grow. A good way to do that is to travel.
So, young person, travel. Travel wide and far. Travel boldly. Travel with full abandon.
You will regret few risks you take when it comes to this. I promise you that. There are three reasons to travel while you’re young:
1. Traveling teaches you to live an adventure
When you look back on your life, you will have moments of which you are proud and maybe a few you regret. It’s likely that the following won’t be on the latter list:
- Bicycled across the Golden Gate Bridge.
- Appeared on Italian TV.
- Hiked a Mayan ruin.
- Learned Spanish in three months.
- Toured Europe by train.
While you’re young, you should travel.
You should take the time to see the world and taste the fullness of life. It’s worth whatever investment or money or sacrifice of time that may be required on your part.
This is not about being a tourist. It’s about experiencing true risk and adventure so you don’t have to live in fear for the rest of your life.
2. Traveling helps you encounter compassion
In your youth, you will make choices that will define you. The disciplines you begin now will be with you for the rest of your life.
Traveling will change you like little else can. It will put you in places that will force you to care for issues that are bigger than you.
If you go to southeast Asia, you may encounter the slave trade. If eastern Europe, you may see the effects of genocide and religious persecution. If Haiti, you’ll witness the the ugly side Western paternalism.
Your heart will break.
You will begin to understand that the world is both a big and small place. You will have a new-found respect for the pain and suffering that over half of the world takes for granted on a daily basis.
And you will feel more connected to your fellow human beings in a deep and lasting way. You will learn to care.
3. Traveling allows you to get some culture
While you’re still young, you should get cultured. Get to know the world and the magnificent people that fill it. There’s nothing quite like walking alongside the Colosseum or seeing Michelangelo’s David in person.
I can describe the city of San Juan and its amazing beaches and historic sites to you, but you really have to see it for yourself to experience it. You can read all the books in the world about the Great Wall of China or The Louvre, but being there is a different story.
The world is a stunning place, full of outstanding works of art. See it.
Do this while you’re still young. Do not squander the time. You may never have it again.
You have a crucial opportunity to invest in the next season of your life now. Whatever you sow, you will eventually reap. Please. For your sake, do this. Because you won’t always be young. And life won’t always be just about you.
So travel. Experience the world for all it’s worth. Become a person of culture, adventure, and compassion.
“What if I’m not young?”
Travel, anyway. It may not be easy to do, but find a way to get out of your comfort zone. It’s really never too late.
But if you haven’t gotten sucked into the routine of life yet, I implore you — travel. It will never be easier than it is right now for you to do that which really matters.

Oi geeente,
A concorrência cai absurdamente!
Here is my video:
A minha melhor dica é assista muitos vídeos.
Vejam alguns vídeos que me inspiraram
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bprOUkzfSAA - (menina que canta)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yhzDe5CXE8 - (brasileira que já foi au pair)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR-hjdgJOT4 - (brasileira, fala bem, vídeos com criança)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nE125US3Q9o - (menina da Espanha, fala muito e bem)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yok0W5uiaUo - (mexicana, criativa demais)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5VqK27T7VA - (menina da Austria, calminha, legalzinha)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0I7hRzUkg8 - (brasileira que morou 6 meses em Boston)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqMq9RGXmPU - (brasileira)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYYtjyq68E4 - (alemã)
Dicas:
- Boa iluminação;
- Gravar em local sem ruídos (ventos, automóveis, construção, etc..);
- Certificar que você está falando alto e claro;
- Decore o texto e não leia;
- Pouca Maquiagem e roupa adequada;
- Adicione pequenos vídeos com criança ou mostrando sua rotina;
- Se não tiver tudo em vídeo, coloque algumas fotos para ilustrar, mas não use só fotos;
- Atenção na hora de editar o vídeo, na APIA o site diz que o tamanho máximo é de 16 MB, e a resolução é de 320 x 240 pixels, e tem os formatos certos que eles aceitam;
- Se a sua voz ficar baixa, lembre-se de diminuir o volume da música também! (Eu assisti vários vídeos que as meninas estavam falando baixinho, então eu aumentei bastante o volume, e de repente entrou uma música suuuper alta. Já sabe o que aconteceu né? Além de ficar surda eu apertei o "X-zinho" e bye bye.);
- Ah e claro, sorria!
Beijooosss!!

Esperei ansiosamente por isso, agora posso gritar:
I HAVE A MATCH!
Hello,How are you? I need to talk to you about something, actually I don't feel comfortable but I have to. I've been talking to another family and yesterday they sent me an email asking me if I was interested in matching for an arrival date of January 14. Honestly, I don't want to hurry you up and also I don't want you to misunderstand me, I just want to know if you are still interested on me as your next au pair. I mean you don't need to say that you want to have a match, but if you are interested maybe I can try to gain some time with the other family.They are a very good family, but I have a feeling that your family is the right one for me, that's why I am talking to you before I reply them.Thank you and I hope you can understand me.Fabii
A resposta foi linda:
Hi Fabi,Everyone here is doing great. I'm glad to hear that you feel we are the right family for you because we feel you are the right au pair for us. You would arrive in the U.S. on Feb 10th and come to our house on Feb 13th. Our current Au Pair doesn't leave until March 2nd so you will have two weeks with her to get comfortable with everything. I will pay you both of course.You will be very happy here. We treat our au pair like one of the family. As soon as I hear back from you, I'll initiate the match.
I HAVE A MATCH! =D
Hello,
I've been talking to another family, and today in the morning they sent me an email asking me if I was interested in matching with them too. I spent all the day thinking about both families because both seem so AMAZING!
Our conversation yesterday night made my decision really hard because I really liked your family and I fell in love with the girls. But unfortunately I have decided to match with the other family at this time, I am so sorry.
I just want to let you know that you are the kind of family that all au pairs wish to find, and I wish you can find a good au pair for your lovely girls.
Thank you so much for your time and I am so sorry again.
Best wishes,Fabi.
E assim acaba meu dia!!!
E se por acaso uma família de Maryland com 2 girls aparecer no seu perfil, come to talk to me, maybe I can help you!
Byeee e suuuuuper boa noite!!!
Holmdel - NJ here I go!

- 2 dogs (labradores)

Ahhhhh quero gritar!!!
Não é o "I have a match" ainda.
Mas é um "I have a feeling!"
Características da Family H:
- Holmdel, New Jersey
- 2 kids - (girl, 8 e boy, 10)
- 3 cats
- Carro para a AP;
- Sem curfew
- Quase todos os weekends off;
- Housekeeper 1 vezes por semana.
- AP brasileira
Eu estou in love com a a família.

Vou contar tudo nesse post.
do Facebook.
Estamos trocando e-mails e
boas.
=D

Hi there! Olha eu aqui de novo.
2ª família!! Woww #sqn
- 5 kids (7, 10, 12, 14 e 15 anos)
- Englewood, North Jersey (perto de NYC);
- Judeus (não comem de sexta até sábado);
- Host mother at home;
- Um filho com alergia a glúten;
- Um filho hiperativo;
- Carro para a AP;
- Não tiveram AP antes;
- Sem schedule bem definido (as vezes trabalha no fds);
UFA! Ela não gostou de mim também hahaha. Viu?! #feeling
Beijosss
Próxima família por favor!
